The colorful Pahiyas Festival is being celebrated every 15th of May in the town of Lucban, Quezon Province as thanksgiving to God for a bountiful harvest. Also it is celebrated in honor of the town’s patron saint, San Isidro Labrador,a farmer.
It is a very vibrant event because people decorate the facade of their houses with leaf-shaped, multi-colored rice paste wafers called “kiping” together with some flowers, fruits and other agricultural harvests. The house with the most creative display wins an award. After the festival, the “kiping”are cooked and eaten as rice chips.
